Help me explore southern Maine

Fred and I are headed south (Fred is my pearly white Forester), and I need your help.

I’m planning to hit up a few trails while I’m there, and I’d like some advice from you. Have you ever gone on any great hikes in southern Maine? Have you heard of some hikes that you haven’t tried but you’d like to see me attempt? If so, please leave a comment below or e-mail me at asarnacki@bangordailynews.com. I’d appreciate it.

I’ll be shooting video, snapping photos and conducting research to bring you a few 1-minute hikes and information on how you can experience the same adventures.

I’m trying to explore the Maine wilderness, one hike (or snowshoe or ski or paddle) at a time. I’m looking for the difficult trails, easy trails and everything in between. With ice cleats, I can handle some ice. With my snowshoes, I’m happy to frolic on snow. In fact, I’d be overjoyed.

But since I’m from Winterport, which “Porters” refer to as “The Port” (but I imagine we aren’t the only port town residents to do so), I don’t know a whole lot about the terrain of southern Maine. I will embrace any suggestions, even if I have to wait for warmer weather for the more difficult trails.
