Learn how to attract birds to your backyard

Going through my inbox this morning, I came across a cool outdoor event happening this evening in Falmouth.

Learn about how to attract birds to your backyard from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, at Maine Audubon, 20 Gilsland Farm Road in Falmouth. The discussion will be led by Bill Culina, author of fiver books, including his latest, “Understanding Perennials: A New Look at an Old Favorite.” He will be joined by Maine Audubon Staff Naturalist Mike Windsor.

One of my favorite things to do is read while sitting in my reclining camp chair in my back yard. I’d like to be visited by a variety of beautiful birds while I spend time out there, but my bird feeder is more like a squirrel feeder. If you have a similar problem, this presentation might be nice for you to attend. It’s one of a number of programs that is part of an ongoing partnership between Maine Audubon and Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens.

Culina will be signing copies of his books before and after the discussion in the Maine Audubon bookstore.

Admission for the evening is $15 for members and $20 for non-members.  RSVPs are required and can be done by visiting the Maine Audubon website at http://maineaudubon.org/events/2012/attracting-birds-to-your-backyard/ or by calling Maine Audubon at 781-2330.

It might be too late of a notice for you to attend this event, but if you are interested in me contacting a few experts and blogging about this topic, say so in the comments below or give me a shout at asarnacki@bangordailynews.com.
