Maine guide calls train into Folk Festival

Master Maine guides Randy Spencer, David Kelso and Linda Kelso showed up at the American Folk Festival at the Bangor waterfront (Aug.24-26) to talk about their experiences in the Maine woods. This year’s Narrative Stage was devoted to demonstrations and discussions about “The Great Outdoors” and featured a local pack basket weaver, a decoy maker, Maine wardens and an expert fly tiers.

The stories and information shared by the three Maine guides drew a good crowd on Sunday (the day I attended, though I’m sure the same can be said for their performance on Saturday). The candid question-and-answer session lasted about an hour and included: Linda Kelso’s story about bear hunting with her daughter, Randy Spencer’s guiding experiences with old timers and people from away, and David Kelso’s passion for producing animal calls.

Below is a video clip that includes some of the animal calls that David Kelso demonstrated to the audience on Sunday.
