Meet me at the Maine Harvest Festival on Sunday

Fellow BDN blogger Linda Trenholm and I will be presenting “Foodies on Foot” at the Maine Harvest Festival from 2:30 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, at the Bangor Auditorium, and I’d love to see some blog readers not only attend the talk but come and chat with me before or after at the BDN booth.

Linda will be talking about some great trail food that she’s been blogging about for a while now at her BDN Food Blog: http://stopthinkingandcook.bangordailynews.com/author/linnie9/.

Hi! I’m really excited to meet you and talk about winter hiking and how to enjoy food in the woods. (Blackcap Mountain, winter 2011-12)

I’m kind of acting as sidekick. I’ll be adding to the food talk with a little bit of context, trail information. I plan to talk about preparing for hiking, and especially winter hiking (my favorite kind of hiking). And if I can get the festival equipment to cooperate, I’ll be showing a hiking video or two (Maybe my winter snowshoe up Katahdin). If not, I’ll reveal the mysteries of my hiking backpack (it’s like a clown car). When it comes to food, I might give a little bit of advice on what NOT to bring during the winter months. Certain energy bars can just about bust your teeth when they’re frozen. Most things I’ve learned from trial and error.

It would be great to meet some fellow outdoors people and swap some hiking information, get your feedback about the 1-minute hike videos and information, and also gain a little insight on what stories you like to read in the BDN outdoor section.

I’m also all about talking to people who may not hike or get outdoors that often but are considering it. I can help you out with what equipment you’ll definitely need and where to buy it at a low cost. And I’d love to provide people will information on what hikes are near their homes. Since starting my blog a year ago, I’ve hiked in 53 different locations throughout Maine, and I haven’t even scratched the surface of the hiking opportunities here in the state.

Besides our fabulous presentation, there’s going to be a lot of other neat things at the weekend-long festival. Check it out at http://maineharvestfestival.com/.

I hope to see you there!
