Organizers are asking for input from the public in naming a new regional trail system that will connect public recreational trials of 12 Penobscot Valley towns: Bangor, Bradley, Brewer, Eddington, Hampden, Hermon, Holden, Milford, Old Town, Orono, Orrington and Veazie.
Representatives from the towns have been working together to create the regional trail system since April, and they plan to create a website that will provide information about all of the trails located in the 12 participating communities.
Currently, three names for the trail system are being considered:
- Heart of Penobscot Trails, which could also be known as HOP Trails and be represented by a heart symbol that can be used on brochures, trail signs and for “healthy heart” walking promos.
- Penobscot Area Connected Trails, which could also be known as PAC Trails and be represented by a hiking backpack symbol.
- Penobscot Area Linked Trails, could also be known as PAL Trails, which offers a “friendly” connotation, referencing not only outdoor companionship but the mutual collaboration and support between towns on this regional project.
The committee asks people to submit their opinions by rank the names in order of preference at www.surveymonkey.com/
