Mountain Day celebration set for Saturday in Blue Hill

Mountain Day 2013 slated for Saturday, Aug. 10, in Blue Hill, will feature a special group hike, a variety of outdoor family activities, live music and food — all in celebration of the beautiful Blue Hill Mountain. The annual event is free and open to all ages.

If looking for some exercise and beautiful scenery, hike “Over the Mountain” on the new Becton Trail. A group will meet at the field on Blue Hill Mountain at 9:30 a.m. and take a shuttle to the Becton trailhead. The hike is 2 miles total (up Becton Trail to the summit of Blue Hill Mountain, then down to the field and your vehicle).

Other family activities planned for the day include a nature scavenger hunt, a story walk, children’s games and crafts, catching and identifying bugs — all from noon to 3 p.m. in the field on Blue Hill Mountain — as well as “Yoga on the Summit” with Charlotte Clews-Lawther at 11:15 a.m. on Blue Hill Mountain summit.

Night and Day jazz trio will play live music from noon to 1:30 p.m.; and Banned from Eden, a rock band from Bar Harbor, will play from 1:30 to 3 p.m. in the field.

The event will be powered by solar panels provided by American Sun Electric/Wessel Electric Inc. and is also supported by the following sponsors: Bar Harbor Bank and Trust, Cadillac Mountain Sports, The First, Hydro-Photon, and TradeWinds. WERU-FM Community Radio is a media sponsor.
