Where in the woods am I? Dead River Trail

Carolyn Newbert and Christene Berg won the “Where in the Woods Am I?” game for Dead River Trail in Orland in January 2014 given these verbal clues and the following gallery of photos:

I waited all week for the temperature to climb above the single digits so I could get outside with my dog Oreo and not worry about things like frostbite and hypothermia. Sunday was the day. The sun was out, and by 1 p.m., the temperatures had climbed to a balmy 32 degrees F. Oreo, Derek and I were delighted. See if you recognize where we decided to go snowshoeing by viewing the photos below. Then leave your best guesses in the comment section at the bottom of the page. Winner gets a high five and a mention in the updated post! And if you like the looks of this trail, stay tuned for tomorrow’s “1-minute hike” video and trail description.

A couple hints: the trail does not form a loop, and while it does offer some nice views, it doesn’t climb to the top of any particular hill or mountain.
