Guided hiking and biking trips will follow the dedication ceremony for Caribou Bog Conservation Area in Orono at 1 p.m. Sunday, May 4, at the trailhead on Taylor Road. The event is free and open to all ages.
I plan to attend the event to learn about the the trail network, which I hear includes some great trails for skiing, hiking, birding and biking.
Hike and bike trips, organized by the Orono Land Trust, will start at 1:20 p.m. Options are:
- A 2-mile hike up Newman Hill
- A 4-mile hike up Newman Hill and Bangor hills to the beaver flowage
- A 3-mile, easy bike ride along a railroad bed to the beaver flowage
- A birding and nature hike on Newman Hill
To get to the Caribou Bog Conservation Area trailhead, take outer Forest Avenue to Taylor Road (also known as Dump Road). And in 0.25 mile, take a left into the trailhead parking area.
