Got ski buddies? Bangor area women’s ski-snowboard club sign-up event, Nov. 12

Bangor-area women, if you’re looking to hit the slopes this winter, consider joining the Greater Bangor Women’s Ski and Snowboard Club, which is holding its annual wine and cheese sign-up night and fundraiser 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Ski Rack Sports, 24 Longview Drive in Bangor.

The club offers a program of skiing or snowboarding for the winter season, with discounts on ski lift tickets, ski or board rentals, clinics, cross-country programs and more.

The club also travels by Cyr bus to Sugarloaf four Sundays during the season, and skis in informal groups by ski level. Women riding the bus must be 15 years old or older. Men can join but cannot take the bus.

Experience is not required. In fact, a special package for those who have never skied is available. So if you’re new to skiing, have been away for a while or just want some new ski buddies, this is the club for you.

During the sign-up event, there will be a silent auction fundraiser for those who commit to the program that night. The program must be paid for by cash or check. Auction items this year will include a Sugarloaf Ski and Stay package, Sugarloaf lift tickets, winter hats and socks, boot dryers and skis.

The event wine was donated by Shane McCarthy at State Street Wine Cellar, and appetizers were donated by Franks Bakery, both Bangor businesses.

For the past 14 years, the club has raised money for Maine Breast Cancer Coalition through raffles, silent auctions, ski-a-thons and craft fairs. This year, they presented the coalition with a check for $3,819 for their Support Service Fund, as well as two $50 Irving cards to be distributed to clients who need help with travel costs during their treatments.

For information about the Greater Bangor Women’s Ski and Snowboard Club and how you can join, email them at gbwssc@gmail.com or find them on Facebook. If you can’t make it to the Nov. 12 sign-up event, you can still sign up for the club. The deadline is Nov. 30.
