Where in the woods am I? Hirundo Wildlife Refuge

No one won the “Where in the Woods Am I?” game for Hirundo Wildlife Refuge in Alton in March 2015 given these verbal clues and the following gallery of photos:

It happens every March in Maine — we get frustrated with the weather. We watch for winter to make its exit. We patiently (or not so patiently) wait for spring.

But isn’t it worse this March? The temperatures are still down in the teens. The wind chill will drag Bangor down to the negative digits today. Ice-encrusted snow lines the streets. And I know from experience that there are still several feet of snow in the woods. Will it ever melt?

The weather. It’s something we can’t control. So instead of lamenting the additional snowfall over the weekend, my fiance Derek and I got out our cross-country skis and explored a local trail network. I advise you do the same. Get out and enjoy the snow while it’s here. Because spring will come. It does every year — sooner or later.

See if you recognize the trail network we enjoyed on Saturday by viewing the photo gallery below. Leave your best guesses in the comment section at the bottom of the post. Winner gets an internet high five, which are in high demand and short supply lately. The winner also gets a mention in the updated post. And as always, stay tuned for tomorrow’s “1-minute ski” video and description of the trail network.
