Sometimes when I’m traveling, if I’m lucky, I stumble across some wildlife. And often, I’ll have my camera and snap a few photos. But I don’t feel I have enough material to write a blog post every time, so these photos just end up lying around and eventually get buried in folders tucked into external hard drives.
But these loon photos were too cool to let go to waste.
In this gallery are photos from two recent outings during which I spotted loons. One loon (wings outstretched) I spotted while kayaking on a pond in Dedham, and the other two loons (I think an adult with this year’s young) I saw from the shore of Lake George in Canaan, while visiting Lake George Regional Park with my family. My niece, Willa, and I were sitting at a picnic table by the shore of the lake when the two loons swam by, to our delight. Making sure to talk in low voices, we crouched at the edge of the water and watched them swim. The birds actually inspired the birthday present I chose for Willa at The Briar Patch in Bangor: the book “June the Loon: The Story of a Maine Loon Chick” and a big, soft, loon hand puppet.
